@mal2012 There was some discussion about this when it was mentioned before— I think it may have been on Reddit. Anyway, apparently an associate professorship in Japan doesn't necessarily come with tenure. That doesn't mean she doesn't have it, just that there's a big ol' question mark about her tenure status.

@sleepyfoxscanlations Ah, thanks. Here in Korea, where a lot of institutional stuff is borrowed from Japan, an assistant professor (助敎授) does not have tenure while an associate professor (副敎授) does, so I was wondering whether it works like that in Japan as well.

After looking some things up, it appears most associate professors do not have tenure in Korea either (but some do), so I suppose it’s similar to Japan.
