I mean, what we just saw in this chapter was her thoughts on the matter, so that is her "hidden motive." She thought Iris' mom was the bomb, couldn't marry her into the family. When she has an adorable daughter, suddenly Queen granny can toss that one into her gene pool with one of her grandchildren... and then the first try at that went up in flames. Now, Iris is getting along with another of her grandchildren, so she wants that ship to sail so she can get some adorable great grandchildren and die surrounded by blissful moe.

The women in the series have some amazing dialogue, grandma is completely smitten by Mellice.

So essentially, the grandma had the hots for Iris' mother for so long, that the grandma settled for having Iris be "united" with her via proxy, of marrying into the royal family.
That motivation is so fucking retarded, so god damn simple and "innocent" in some ways, that if throws you off-kilter. I love it.
