Koushaku Reijou no Tashinami - Vol. 5 Ch. 42.2

Sounds like it's about the time to perform a local reformation and nominate a bishop independent of the church in the capital. What would the church do? Hit her in the head with a holy book? Money and the threat of violence (military power) are what run the world, in the end. The common people are too busy with their daily lives to care about the top brass of the church, as long as they get their regular services. If they think the new order is more just and fair (and especially not as hungry for money), they will be glad to accept it.

@Kaarme: What would the church do?
As it is the state religion and full of arrogant nobles....they would send the military against the heretics. Who cares about the complains of a few heretic commoners, when that happens? Burn the witch. Everyone outside her territory would know, it was her who was evil and lead her people astray. This situation is bad....

I would imagine, that as a denounced member, she can't continue to be within the linage of succession. The church is axing her.

@Qelix
Agreed. Just excommunication was serious business in the Middle Ages. The duchy obviously has the economic and military power to resist, but that would put them in direct collision curse with the royal authority. As the priest says, the church is officially the national religion and has close connections with the state and the nobility; surely they don't lack money or power to exert their influence.

@Qelix Wasn't her father, the duke, a prime minister or something? The church would never dare to do this unless they first checked with someone, likely the opposing prince's faction. It wouldn't be a problem for the prime minister to make some random church leader shorter by his head's measure, should the church leader not have powerful backing. But such things can change quickly. I was just joking in my previous post because this can't be only up to the church. All the more so if it's a state church, as it's connected to the secular leadership of the country in that case. If it was a decision and action solely by the church, it would be the action of a madman looking forward to an early death.

@mahtan
That's probably analogous to being excommunicated back when the pope was (nearly) the most powerful person in the world.

"We received notice that the Darryll church has denounced you!"
"Well, that has gone better than expected!"

lol what

you guys know wars have started for less right?

Also, is it "denounced" (which why the fuck would the church bother to denounce an individual person) or "excommunicated"? Because the latter is the real shit.

Bro, I fear this arc is gonna drive me madddd.
I can feel it in my bones.
I'm scared.

O RLY?!

Good. Nobody really needs religion anyway. Keep the charity, ditch the worship of magical sky-monkeys.
