The translation may be accurate, but it seems weird to me that what went in the tea was "sake". Isn't this supposed to be more or less Victorian or Regency London? Not a ton of sake going around, certainly not what you'd expect the maids to default to. Just wondering if it might be some word that's kind of a generic term for liquor, which in Japan would often imply sake but might not actually mean sake, if you see what I mean. Of course, because this was Japanese --> Spanish --> English it might be hard to check.
