on top of what Torgr said, burning and poisoning resources that the enemy hoped to steal and use is a good way to demoralize them. I'm still hoping he remembers to poison any wells they have before leaving.

Nope, he's still superhuman, he just KOd a giant wolfman with a single punch. But he considers himself to be a magician as that's what he prefers to use. But as the story goes on he'll engage in close combat more and more. It's part of a running gag that he considers himself a magician but everyone thinks he's warrior or berserker. His real class would be something along the lines of a battlemage or spellsword.
