Kuro no Shoukanshi - Vol. 7 Ch. 48 - Mock Battle IV

How are all of you convinced that her magic defense would tank that meteor, when Kelvin overloaded it with his probing attacks? Throwing her at the meteor instead of digging the trench, would have resulted in both of them getting squashed.
 
@CountryMage I think it's reasonable to assume that she can tank it, since she created the meteor as part of her own plan, unless she hates him so much that she was willing to kill herself to kill him too with the sword there. I don't think there's any indication that her buff is able to be "shaved away", Kelvin only ever comments that it's just not absolute negation (so, something like it has a max damage absorption per-hit, but it doesn't ever reduce in efficacy from taking more hits). Unless you just mean overloaded as "if Kelvin could hurt her, how could a meteor not", then I'd just say that people are usually more resistant to their own element so it'd probably hurt her a lot less than Kelvin's magic.
 
@Mizumachi maybe, but as far as I can tell there has been no hint of this at all. we didn't get intro'd to the girl untill just before this fight and she has basically been threatening to kill him the whole time.
 
Mannnnnn I really hate her character. I know she's gonna get some redemption arc in the future but I highly doubt there's anything that can make up for her wanting to legit kill MC with a passion.
 
@Darris I agree with your comments about her but disagree about the other points.
1. They never said anything about her needing to be conscious for it to activate. Its seems like a passive skill.
2. she didn't knock herself out, she killed herself and kinda him to activate the magic early. She Passed out from the stab but before he could the life magic activated and he was able to react in time to save them both. though who knows if she would have survived the impact cause of the armor.
3. Maybe "a few" was the wrong word to use but like a 30-40 feet or so hole isnt enough to dodge a meteor that size anyway. It still didn't make sense.

But yea i fully agree she was a bitch. she was gonna kill him or possible them both for just an exhibition match. What the hell is wrong with her. i would have let her taste her own meteor and "if she dies she dies" lol
 
@CountryMage We're convinced because that was her whole plan and im assuming she knew she could. Her whole plan was for them both to get hit by it and she would barely survive thanks to her magic defense while he would die.
I don't believe throwing her would have helped lol, what i was thinking was him knocking her own then blocking with her as a meat shield to "negate" most of the meteor/damage. I mean her ability negates a significant amount of S magic even if its not all so he would have used her to take most of the direct impact. But what ever either way im not confident of it as a great meteor defense lol
 
@Salfaro and @SSJR2 I call bullshit, it blocks magic, not magic made physical objects. Kelvin punched through it several times in the fight. If he were to try using her as a meatshield, then there would be a Sylvia shaped impression in the ice block that crushes them both. You saw the force needed to break that ice, you think her defense would just cancel the whole thing out, and that just wasn't going to happen. She might have been able to survive the crushing, and use her magic to phase through the ice after, but her unconscious defense wasn't going to erase the ice.

@CountryMage Read chapter 46 again dude, Kelvin literally said her magic "cancels out" and "negates magic". So that is erasing magic. She was literally negating his magic for chapter 44-45 too.

However, the issue is the rank of magic and damage. She can't fully negate the damage from S and A-ranked magic and will take some Damage even less to none for lower ranks. Also cant negate magic made weapons. And I know you will try to call the block of ice a weapon but its not its literally a block of ice made from magic and an element at that so its pure magic.

So anyway she would have taken damage from her ice meteor but survived and been able to negate most of the damage too. That was literally her plan so I don't know why you're denying it or making up some phasing ability hypothetical to just to deny what the chapter itself said about her ability.

It's a physical object made by magic; it's not magic by itself. There is no magic driving the ice meteor, or it would have dissipated when she passed out. Why waste magic trying to hold it to a certain path, when gravity will do the job for you? After all, unlike fire or Kelvin's scythe ice actually has physical form.

Edit: Actually, she can't be cancelling magic's effects on herself. If she did, she'd be dead now. She'd cancel the lifeward.
 
@cor3zone Honestly I don't know, I'm not acting like an expert on this I'm just basing everything on what they said she attempted to do. Also maybe she can except certain magic like the Lifeward to bypass her ability or maybe it only affects offensive magic who knows. I guess we need more info.
 
@CountryMage The rules of physical objects made by magic are always wonky. The best example is probably the earth element, where generally aside from sometimes poison, almost everything earth magic makes is physical objects like sand and boulders, but still you'll have stories/games where people weak to the earth element get hurt more from being hit by a giant earth rock than a giant ice rock, despite our non-magical assumption being "well the magic is hitting their armor/clothes, not them physically, so it should just be the concussive force of the rock doing the same damage". Especially when the fantasy world is based on video game mechanics like this one, factoring element into the object being made isn't too crazy imo.

I think it's best to go with author intent and not physics here, if she was intending to kill him and not herself, it means the ice meteor wouldn't have been a problem for her. They probably assumed it wasn't necessary to go into the in-depth explanation of why it wouldn't have, with minor things that can be pieced together into a reasonable explanation there. It's like seeing a MC get punched by a super powerful demon while standing still and not moving an inch and thinking "that's wrong, even if he didn't get hurt, he should've went flying because of the force of the punch and his relatively low mass without being anchored". Supernatural abilites and natural physics don't mix perfectly.

Could be explained by her wanting to kill him for real (which seems plausible). Kill him once before impact so his lifeward activates, then both die on impact, but only she revives. A certain death for both, to ensure he dies.

Just a possible explanation.🙂
 
@cor3zone Right, her initial intent at the start of the fight definitely seemed to be to kill Kelvin for real, I'm not arguing that it wasn't. But once she got grappled her immediate next plan switch was to stab herself in the heart along with Kelvin right before the meteor hit. So she immediately switched to a plan that would kill her twice (if the meteor was enough to kill her), which lifeward wouldn't have been able to deal with, and she would die for real too. So, unless she's suicidal, the fact that she so willingly stabbed herself in the heart means that the meteor afterwards shouldn't have been an issue.

Considering her attitude towards Kelvin from their first encounter, I'd say there is evidence to suggest a burning hatred. Wouldn't put it past a fanatic to magic-suicidebomb. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
