@midnight2630 Probably, you only need to inject the water-soluble dye with a syringe into the stem below the flower if the plant is rooted. If you cut it you can just put it in the colored water but then the roses don't look as fresh.
@ilusatus I don't know the spoilers, but I hold out hope that maybe the father just loves his daughter, but is afflicted with the same sort of emotional constipation as the MC and doesn't know how to fix their relationship. If he's similar to his daughter, he probably leans a but more towards the end justifies the means on the moral scale: "I'm going to do what's right for my daughter, even if she hates it, because she's smart and will get over it if when she understands what I was doing in the end was for the greater good, right?"
... but this is a manga, and he'll probably have some nefarious reason or something.

With genetic engineering, we're getting there! While there's lots of research money for things like cancer and crops because those help people, there's not so much for aesthetics projects.

The strategist Rakan has literal face blindness. Everyone's faces are shogi pieces with their "rank" including his own family members. All except one courtesan Fenshen, Maomao's mother (and later Maomao. He can see her face.) He genuinely loved her and constantly visited the brothel for her. Then his elitist family gave him shitloads of work to keep him away from her for many years. His face blindness also gave this man severe communication problems (in other words, he is an asshole with no regards of other people's feelings).
Meanwhile, Fenshen got pregnant and is no longer "fit" for working at the brothel so her life became miserable. So she abused Maomao till some point in time. Then Rakan's uncle [the doctor] became Maomao's foster father.
Rakan then came by once he was free from his elitist family (He became the head of the house) and tried to gain custody of Maomao but he was an asshole. Maomao knows he is the 'real father' but doesn't care.
To Maomao, the doctor is her "genuine father". Rakan is just a creepy old asshole stalker

Page 12, "Roses need at least two months to bloom" should be "The roses will bloom in 2 months earliest" or "The blooming season is still 2 months away"

He couldn't remember people's face, at all, and it's only at his uncle (Maomao's foster dad) suggestion to 'assign' the shogi pieces to them that he start being able to function in society.
What he remembered about Maomao's mother was her 'hand' if I recall.
And when he found Maomao (I think also based on her hand), he also saw a certain 'shogi piece' that he didn't expect he'd ever get to meet again.
