Kusuriya no Hitorigoto - Vol. 8 Ch. 37 - Balsam and Wood Sorrel (Part 1)

This comment war start because there are literally some people who can't tell the difference between norm and good

...damn. at least now we know Rakan didnt raep Maomao's mom and that he's not a bad guy, as said by Meimei. He's just a sociopath(?) or socially inept. This eases my heart if one day Maomao's forced to come back to him.

But this still doesn't explain why Maomao hates him with true disdain instead of the usual disdain directed at the pretty boy. There's more to this story...

Wait so then why did he tell Junshi that he lowered a courtesan's price to get her? Because he never actually redeemed her because of his military campaign ...

@Goyal99Raj He accidentally "lowered" her price. He didn't realize that the impregnated her during his last visit until he saw her finger. So technically, that is true. For my opinion, the way he told that he lowered her price is a sign of atonement, regret, and carrying the sin and blame of her downfall.

woooo. umm, sorry to burst everyone's debate if anyone comes upon my comment but the novel was a lot more- it was less than this. this is one way to interpret the old man, but in the novel a clear reason was omitted. he was made to be a scumbag to be hated on. when Maomao revealed that you can drop a courtesans price with such methods, her father was the realization of those desire filled people. he is hated on by Maomao. how her father slept with her mother was kept vague, but I could see this happening.
the novel was written using Maomao's perspective so it's safe to assume that it was biased. in the novel it seemed the reason why he acknowledge her as his daughter because she was just as interesting as her mother. he's lived his entire life seeing people as game pieces, wanting to keep the one person interesting by his side just for the sake of it
even with the bias- it's not hard to believe that he was a desperate father figure separated by circumstances. but this is some whitewashing to say nonetheless (I'm using the non-racial definition)

Im sorry for cursing him out. Wow. The author is really talented in making what we think is a pice of scum into a good person.
