Kusuriya no Hitorigoto - Vol. 8 Ch. 39 - Balsam and Wood Sorrel (Part 3)

lol when you open the chapter after it's only been up for 12 seconds...

I don't know what to make of Gaoshun's face at the end there.

That's a big mood from Gao Shun.

@Asbolus
Because the keikaku was.
>Get myself pregnant without telling him
>My price goes to shit
>He can buy me ez pz
>???
>Profit!
But then he got deployed by his family, who did it on purpose to cockblock the relationship since they didn't approve of it, and then got ultra cockblocked to three years rather than six months so the whole keikaku went to hell since he was not there anymore.
You can't just marry a courtesan just like that bro.

Haha that man seems like a bit of a mess....why didn't he marry his wife, even if he was in a rush to be deployed, he should have done right by her.

I didn't like Mao Mao on this one, the reasoning seems too shallow for me, given that so much time went by, and her knowing the whole situation.

Honestly, I pity Gaoshun. It's not like he did bad to his child and her mother on purpose... He spent his life trying to make amends and is still hated by Mao Mao. I feel sorry for him.

@Aureliano You do know that impressions on us as children are hard to remove even as adults? Dude rocked up as a total stranger covered in blood trying to grab at her as a child, that a fuck up that will last a life time even if he didn't repeatedly do that. Its commendable she even talks to him.

@Aureliano

I mean I can see why Mao Mao would see him in that manner, they didn't have the best first introduction to one another. Also in a way Mao Mao is alot like Rakan, personality and behaviour wise so she won't be the easiest person to change her mind or thoughts about someone.

Like it took his uncle and Mao Mao's mother for Gaoshun to be somewhat socially functionable.

edit: mistook Rakan for Gaoshun lol

i understand what maomao's feeling, that feel when the man that was sung so high turned out to be just simply a sly bastard. There's a bit more to it than this reason, but I can't be bothered to type more than 2 lines of comments

@Richman
Exactly what it means. There's another version of this manga with a different artist out there. It's just never been translated til now 🤷🏾‍♀️

@Aureliano Someone pointed out in the previous chapter's comments that in the original version of the story the mother died while he was out at war, with that in mind I read this more shallow reason to hate him as being the result of one of the adaptations (can't remember if there was a step between the original and this version or not) taking out a very critical part of the reason she doesn't like him in the original and trying to fill in the gap quickly, without having laid down the kind of groundwork that the original work had.

@Asbolus

He didn't have enough money to buy her off before he went to war.

Obligatory reminder than courtesans are debt slaves -

@richman Maomao gets a +3 years so now eligible to be objectified and instead of being disgusted with the male gaze her heart will go doki doki and she will blush or something like that.

I'm glad there's two versions of this. We can see the story happening in different perspectives and I can't get enough of our dear Mao Mao 💕💞
