Kusuriya no Hitorigoto

@Carmichael
Doupt it. I pretty sure she's closer to twenty, if not exactly that. The amount of knowledge she has and her very mature behavior screams adult. This is a historical remember? Most people don't even know how to read, yet she does.

She herself at one point called herself a skinny petite woman, who has to use cosmetics to look ugly so men don't attack her.

I looked it up and according to the Web Novel she's 17, so we were both close but wrong^^

And most of your observation aren't really a sign of age, Maomao was born and raised in the Red Light District and was the apprentice of a (suspiciously) talented doctor. More than a sign of age, her reaction and logic stems from growing up in a harsh environment. It will be explained later, but it's also worth noting that Maomao is basically a genius, explaining why she is so knowledgeable and mature despite her young age.

And the definition of women depends on the era, in the middle ages, you were considered marriageable as soon as 13-14 depending on the necessities.

Does the other attendant have name? The one I remember are Honnyan the chief, Ouka (the one who is a bit hotheaded), and Ailan (the one who gave Maomao some treats). I don't know the last one (who have lighter hair color)

@lasercats I was surprised too, but they apparently did much worse

Yuè is the removal of kneecap or of the foot.

So he definitely did something pretty fucked up if he was made a eunuch, then punished by yuè, and then banished.

But the main thing I wanna know is how the fuck he had a kid if he’s a eunuch.

@Mimik: IIRC, the old man is merely MaoMao's adoptive father, not her biological one.

Also, this might have been said before, but: The reason MaoMao is symbolised by a cat in several places is because her name is spelled, and pronounced, CatCat. The nickname the eunuch gave her, Xiao Mao, means Little Cat. This explains why her speech bubbles are often denoted with a stylised cat, and why she grew cat ears and tail when JinShi had cornered her.

I love this manga but I wish they set up the mystery where the reader can solve it. The MC just figures it out. It take the fun away from the mystery. But anyways I still love it

@Joestar Read the novel. The chapter progression usually ends with a 'mystery cliffhanger'. That is, if you even realized that the 'mystery' already started.

Also, Mao Mao's name gets 'annoying' when maomao, an actual cat, makes its debut.
