@VINT64 To put something on the back burner means you're postponing it or you're prioritizing other things now but you still plan on doing it later. The origin of the idiom is cooking: the front of the stove is the easiest to reach, so anything you're actively cooking you tend to put on the front burners (also called the eyes — the heating elements). It's more difficult to reach the burners at the back (and it can be dangerous if you're reaching over hot pans on the front burners), so the back burners are where you put something that isn't urgent, or that you don't have to tend very often, or that you only need to keep warm.
