I know about a real life situation similar to this that happened. A guy fixed up a girl's broken down car for her for free and since he got dirty doing it she invited him into her house for a shower obviously hinting at something, but he just rejected her saying that his house is really close by and he doesn't have any spare cloths with him and left.

We are sometimes ridiculously dumb and innocent.
