I'm guessing he says something along the lines "普通におかあさんだ" (futuu ni okaa-san da).
This line alone could be translated as "she's my normal mother", but in context he saying he calls her okaa-san, as would be normal (futsuu = normal).
Whoever translated this line must have missed the context. Understandable mistake.
