@reu I think for the religion to take so strongly, there must have always be elements of evil that the faced from magic. The religion itself might lead to more, since if you had magic I doubt you could live peacefully once you were found out and some might have been pushed to evil acts because they were persecuted, but equally some might gain power and use it for such means just because they want to.
