Kyoukoku no Recuerdo - Vol. 1 Ch. 9

This also adds a bit more to Sauro's motivation, he thinks that he's the reason Arsenio wasn't "protected by the lord". He thinks that it's his fault that Arsenio is, in the eye's of their religion, a corpse running around on the whim of some malevolent beast.

I never read the sequel yet but what happened to arsenio and the salamander?

@Hadski
Definitely recommend reading the sequel since it was actually published long before this "prequel". This is more like a side story giving context to events in the main story (Majo no Geboku to Maou no Tsuno). The first few chapters will reveal it all.

I’m wondering where the surviving twin comes into this and whether her name is Elizabeth

@Drailis There's every chance that "Arsenio" is actually just some magical beast walking around with the memories and corpse of the guy. Though with what happens with the shaman in the sequel I doubt it

@reu based on what we have seen, I'm not sure that could be the case. If he had died then his body could probably have been controlled but I think this Arsenio is still the same Arsenio later. It's just that the religion they have implies otherwise, likely because in some cases its true.

@TakeiDaloui What I was getting at is that the salamader could, willingly/knowingly or not, have his memories and be impersonating him. Degrees of possession, we know the salamander is in him, but we don't know if there's anything else in there, think ship of theseus but for the soul.

@reu true, though as you said before with the sequel, it seems unlikely, if not down right impossible. Otherwise removing the salamander should have caused a lot more issues than it did.

@TakeiDaloui Yeah that's what I thought, though the impersonation route would be much cooler than the alternative, now that we've how hellish magic can be.

@reu It would mostly work if this had come first. But since this came after the 'sequel', it's bound by that limitation. If this had come first, it could have carried the question on for a while on whether Arsenio is really himself or whether he is the salamander thinking he is him.

@TakeiDaloui Yeah, this prequel doesn't at all with the comedic violence and milkers obsessed demon lord of the main series. Though the main series's mc is a kid in love, not a soldier that's the last line of defence against the darkeness and evils of magic

Thank you for translating this prequel for us guys really.

Arsenio and Sauro really got unlucky with everything that happened, having to make a series of crappy choices quickly, and so several things obviously coming together to fuck them up later, it's so sad. I'm actually kinda glad I read Majo no Geboku first, to know in advance that things will get better for them someday helps haha.

Also I really like Rico and Sara, he seems really smart and kept helping Arsenio since he got he's a good kid, and poor salamander seems just grateful that this human with a warm heart accidentally freed it but doesn't understand that it might cause it some serious troubles. I'm guessing we'll see Caith Sith and the viscount's daughter some day again, and I hope Arsenio will maybe talk/bond in a better way with Sara, like maybe that's what he needs to control his fire better in the main story.
Anyway this prequel is really good, good complex backstory for very lovable and interesting characters and their relationship, I'm so happy I gave a try to the adventures of the witch's servant.

Dammit cliffhanger! 😭
Tho i know the ending... But i really want to read the sob sob parts. I also want to jump in and help arsenio....
