I see. With what I assume was the salamander taking control of that guy, the whole "cold" thing makes me think that thought the man might have been a good vessel once, he lost what made him ideal in his heart by the time he let the salamander in.
For the salamander to stay with Arsenio so long later and come back to him when separated, it speaks of how warm Arsenio managed to keep his heart, though I doubt that could have been done without Betty.
