Wait that's the prequel to an already ongoing series. Damn it, yes! Else this would have been a pretty shitty ending.

@Georg-Prime It was sad how quickly his attitude shifted but you bringing up the whole promise to kill him if he became a monster actually makes it have so much more impact now. I understood why he switched mentality so easily, because everything he has been told to this point says that Arsenio is gone and he saw proof of a monster in how Arsenio escaped, but the promise he made too now puts more weight into why he said those final words too.

@TakeiDaloui I think it's because I only began reading this story about two months ago, so got to binge most of the main series and half of Recuerdo rather than painfully wait for the next chapter for years, and kept re-reading some parts (when I find a new passion I don't half-ass it lol), so the events are clear and fresh in my mind and that helps remembering important lines and not missing subtleties Mochi made one little 'faux raccord' between the main story and the prequel, but otherwise it's really nicely written, well woven complex characters in complex situations, for a regular shônen manga.

@Georg-Prime That would help. I started on the main series a decent bit before Sauro showed up (Not that it meant I didn't hear about him in comments) and then started this prequel as it began. Waiting around gives something to look forward to frequently but does mean it's easier to forget stuff.

I thought this is a story where a pure heart will never waver and give in into darkness, turn out it ended with an open ending. I think the author shut down the manga,
