Honestly given that she is so young, couldn't she just use the excuse that she has recurring bad dreams of a future in which all of her family are killed one by one leaving her all alone? That she is worried such dreams might come to pass? She is what... 4 here? that kind of thing is the perfect excuse to innocently ask these kind of questions. It might also make hal more cautious in the future so he doesn't get killed after her brother if it should happen. Hell if her father is killed Hal might remember this conversation and be an early ally for her older self should the worst come to pass.

I'm speed rereading this and I can't help but wonder how an Earldom, here, County, can be considered an average noble family, with it's head being the leader of one of the only four Knight orders of the Empire, and owning lots of land. With their background, they should be part of high society.
