i’m just so confused as to how this could have happened in a noble family who has maids and nannies to take care of children when the parent is absent. but seriously i want to cry. what a lonely death, the mother is pitiful too (it is her responsibility though, as well as the father’s but at least she feels guilt. but it’s terrible that she fell mentally ill) and poor julien i hope they can live happily.

I love how Lippe just takes that self-sacrifice and just punts it over the horizon.

@enyoteremchi my guess: The father gives no craps about his wife, besides sex and making an heir, or the daughter, after all the "important" one is the son and he's in critical condition all the time and needs all the attention. So, if the daughter can entertain herself out from underfoot, and he doesn't have to waste any extra resources, all the better. Clearly, he isn't giving any more than what is ABSOLUTELY necessary if he isn't even trying to get the wife the actual help she needs.
