Her fiance is disgusting... I was terrified for Ebony just reading it. Also love how much the servants love Ebony! I can't wait to see our girl dish out her revenge!
@Asbolus I believe both incidents were covered before now, to some extent, this was just adding some more detail and imagery to what we knew of the fiance end of things. I just wouldn't be able to tell you offhand which chapter to check back on for anything about her father's death, but I'm pretty sure it was when she was talking with Juro during one of the lessons though because they had a conversation about how she became a "criminal" with a little prompting from the Duke so that Juro would come to understand her better.
@Asbolus If I remember right, her fiancé's death was an accident but her father's death was self-defense. I think once her father saw what happened to the fiancé he freaked out and blamed Ebony. He then began to attack her and when she defended herself she ended up killing him. Pretty much all the guys in her life at that time were scumbags. I think the father was selling her off for the money from the fiancé's side, and exchange they get to join a count's family. Sadly both treated Ebony like some object to exploit.
I say that, but again I think I might have only read the self-defense part. The rest is my own supposition.
@Glomoro The attack is mentioned at the beginning of Chapter 33. It says her fiance was about to rape her, and then her father intended to murder her in an honour killing.
Planning to rape his fiance in front of his friends. Victor Seddell really was complete scum.
Whoa, what an exciting development. It won't be easy, will it? Even disregarding the country's extreme bias against women, many years have passed since the incident. What evidence can she present?
@Kyouri: If they leave they're basically admitting defeat. It's letting those scum drive them away. Now, one could make an argument that who cares what those scum think, she shouldn't have to put up with this, just go somewhere else and live how she likes screw them... but that doesn't resolve the problems that Ebony and the duke want to solve. It leaves all those women trapped in that horrifying torture institution they call a prison. It leaves women like the poor widow Meister that Ebony helped without any support when male-dominated society chooses to turn on them.
Fuck that. I want to see Ebony tear the whole damn system down and crush the bastards who live by it beneath her feet. Make them KNOW what a terrible mistake they made when they made her their enemy.
@rdirf
From memory the trial was biaised, Ebony didn't talk at all, her lawyer lied and said that ebony have admit her fault and plaid guilty.
her own lawyer is the man who accused her the most.
Either way, she was accused of pushing her fiancé in the stair but his body was on the back so he face ebony and with his height and weight, even by surprise being push shouldn't make him fall.
That was I remeber from when the duke examine her case, that a good start I think
