This seemed like such a stretch to imply that MC unconsciously wants to fuck his mom. Like, it retcons his first reaction, it's barely even relative to the situation too, literally only common floor is that he's fighting his father, but for very obvious and different reasons. There's just a lot of forced dumb shit being explained here and I'm sure you can interpret it in a way you want it to make sense, but it really just doesn't work really.

They're not using the Oedipus complex to say he wants to fuck his mom, they're just using it to explain his conflict with his dad and tie in the whole libido theme.

Freud's idea was that every child went through an Oedipus complex during psychosexual development during the "phallic stage" (3-6 years old). There's also a slightly different explanation for girls but yeah. The Wikipedia page on it has a decent explanation.

Most psych majors nowadays are taught about Freud and his theories but are basically told "but a lot of it is untestable and kinda BS so uh grain of salt for the most part lol"
