Light and Shadow

I read the chapter y'all were talking about. That definitely wasn't really consensual. Dunno if it was rape but it ... wasn't good.
I'll still keep reading tho cuz I want to know where this goes 🤷🏾‍♀️

Edit: @ohkimch I get what you mean about the romanticization thing.

It's getting increasingly difficult to not dislike the ML. It's also weird as hell that the FL started to fall for him that early in. But I'll keep going. Because I'm bored.

If I were to give my two cents on whether it was rape or not, I would say it’s not, but it definitely wasn’t a healthy sex life either. It was more of a barter than anything. "Fine I’ll let you screw me, but I’d better have the power of a duchess and all that comes with it" sort of thing. Something she’s reluctant to do but will put up with it if she gets the authority she wants.

Wow, it was really impressive. I know a lot of people get put off by the start but it's a good story.

A medieval drama/romance with poor world building as well as a very shallow portrayal of nobility whenever it tries to dip its toes into governance and intrigue, but it thankfully doesn't do that too often so it works kind of as a more character driver piece; it was engaging enough for me to stick with it until the end, but not much more than that.

Characters and romance aspects are lukewarm at best which is very unfortunate considering how that's the main focus, and the plot overall feels contrived to further those aspects without much regard to anything else.

Strongest point is the art which isn't amazing either, but it's full color with pretty decent shading.
Weakest point is pacing, fluctuating wildly between rushing and snail-pace-- critically so towards the end.

Honestly was so bored by chapter 90 that I was considering dropping it despite being on the last stretch since there was no ending that would be satisfying at that point. If you're 20-40 chapters in and ask yourself "is this going to get better" then the answer is no, not really.

In a lot of ways, this story is somewhat lacking.

It felt like the whole setting, the beginning, sets the premise up as though it should be this great undertaking with many obstacles to achieve the MC's goal. That there will be a long and ardous road, a path of suffering, of something more than what she actually encounters. It's disappointing, just because it feels misleading.

Instead of a story of intrigue and strife, of dynamic relationships and back-and-forth, it ends up falling more into the realm of fluff, slice-of-life, and historical fiction. There's a good degree of dark content embedded wthin the story, but much of it tends to feel superificial, or just that it was left untouched with so much more potential. And the romance, while sweet at times, is also rushed and lacking.

I would still recommend reading it, but if nothing else, it would be for the MC. I personally really enjoyed her character, her strengths, and her weaknesses. While I think there could have been more, the fact that she is strong, that she does perservere against all these odds, that she can appear as both the lamb and a wild animal make it worth the time. Those scenes alone make this story memorable.

For the first dozens of chapters i though it was a bit shallow and simple, and way later that the pace was a bit slow and a lot more could have happened in 100 chapters but given that this has lot of action, it was more like the opposite, but while i was conscious that this was far waya from a masterpiece it kept itself interesting.
Overall, i think it was a good read.

PS: i could not stop thinking oh her as a ''he'' or androgynous even after the first battle of hers. Maybe the feeling was stronger as she felt a copy (on purpose) of Arturia of Fate Stay Night in looks and sometimes even on attitude, even more with the sword and blue/white/golden clothes.
Also it was a miracle that her fame as a warrior did not spread already after the first battle not only to Eli and to their domains, but to the whole kingdom, even more after the last battle. Same about her prince past when she got to the castle, or from the survivors from the kidnapping as she told her story loud and clear.

Is there a place to read this that doesn't have shit-teir quality ??

Great story around though.

Masterpiece. The romance is good and heartwarming. For those who cares about starting chapter, maybe thats because he is a man who fought war for years without f*pping. so please understand. lol.

this is one of the best manhwa i've ever read. the story, the characters, all of it. For those who keep complaining why the story is "not complicated enough", please just make your own manhwa instead.

A very good story, not complicated but not too simple. You just simply want more.

This adaptation is so fast paced that it feels disjointed at times. It’s basically like reading spoilers from bullet points with pictures. Good for a light read as a result, but leaves a lot to be desired of what it could have been.
