So as of now my theory is that the twins are both not of the emperor's bloodline (though whether they're replacements or just the children of another man, I'm not sure.)

In chapter 1, she says that she needs to leave before the king finds out she's not his real daughter, right after reading about the descent from the goddess stuff (so presumably she's talking about her body and not just her reincarnated mind. ) She also says her brother is crown prince (and thus heir to the throne) even though she's the older twin.

Now in this chapter the saintess says the heir is false. There's a picture of Shaylia, but she's not the heir, so they're actually talking about her brother (though as his twin Shaylia is of course implicated as well.)

Also she says that Eclette is only "technically" her cousin. The technicality, I think, is that Shaylia is the legal, but secretly not biological, daughter of the emperor and Eclette is secretly the biological daughter of his older brother, the former emperor.

@Tatsuya-Kai I have never really been bothered by this trope, as its a fantasy trope. They are only inspired by, not really trying to represent. I also think there is a language gap in the word in the same way obvious christian inspired organisations seem to use temples, when temples are not used in christianity. Either way its always for the better to just see them as their own entity and not read to much into it.

Uhm... Doesn't that make MC a rightful heir to the throne? The novel protagonist's father was deposed by his brother, he had a right cause for that, the throne didn't get into some unrelated bloodline's hands.
This kind of seems less like a "rightful heir taking back their throne" situation and more like a "church making a powerplay by installing puppet monarch" situation.

This is making me confused. If she's still of a royal blood then why did they make it appear a like she's a commoner posing as royal?
Current emperor is her father? But why she make it sound like she's not the real daughter of the current emperor?

@Xevin maybe it's because we are reading their stories so we kind of feel like they should avoid it by living their life freely + we, readers, kind of know they will most likely survive but from their point of view, they wouldn't really know which route they chose would ensure them a safe life.

Maybe just living a life freely would make them more vulnerable to harm. Maybe they thought by taking actions, they are actively doing something to avoid it -> more confidence that they'll survive.

If they just ignore everything, it's more of a passive action -> psychologically maybe they would feel like,'am i doing enough to save myself?'

Idk this is just my take. But sometimes, it does get kind of annoying or boring when the stories are written badly XD

I'm so confused with this manhwa and its almost cringey. So Eclette is the child of the saintess and the previous emperor while Shaylia and her twin brother are children of the current emperor? Then what's all this talk about her not being of 'true' lineage? Whatever the f that means. Its not like they're mistaking her for Eclette. Also devil saintess makes an appearance? Let's hope that this makes more sense soon though so far, its pretty much a mess...
