@tiagop : It's more of older generation game thing, back when they used 2 bytes number for stats.
The other well known number of 'counter stop'/'cap' number was 255 for the single byte.

This makes me immediately think of EVs in Pokemon since there hard cap for a single stat are 255, with 510 being the total cap of EVs for a single Pokemon.
