The guy at the end is IIRC, not going to be important for a long long long LONG time.
I always found it weird reading the novel that they never explained who he was, but yeah..... unless i mix some people up he should be :

The Elf king´s half elf son.
He later becomes the ruler off most elfs on the continent.
Right now the elves live in hiding in secret cabals so nobody knows they are elfs as they can disguise themselfs.
Right now humanity thinks every other race is extinct becouse ( Huge spoilers for the later half of the story)

10,000 years ago gods battled demons and the world got fucked so badly that every other intelligent race than humans evacuated the main continent where humans now live.
This is important because outside of the middle continent everywhere else is a monster infested hell hole that can kill even the strongest warriors of most races pretty easy.
The elfs were an exception because the royal family failed to evacuate(and 98 % of the elven race died becouse of it ) so only the elfs who live in hiding live alongside humans right now.
This is one of the reasons the MC is able to recruit the elfs to his side later on when armageddon breaks out again.

The goblins alone more or less wipe out 1/4th of the continent in like a weak.
