Why would powerful assassins keep serving some weird organisation if there's no benefit in it for them and they are treated like shit? Brainwashed tools can't become that powerful, aside from certain kinds of suicide missions.
 
the mc isn't randomly OP, if people went back. While he may have been feigning weakness, he was actually pretty skilled.

One of the sign was the dude beat up the Goblin Leader.
He notices assassination attempts. The dude has always been sharp.
