I understand where you're coming from though but I can only attribute this to the weird story pacing and ending.

Ok. Here is the explanation for what happened.
Essentially they're similar in that both of them are crushing on someone and they both kinda wanna have something in common with their crush. The girl was happy at first since she now found something they have in common. But consequently, that means the guy is crushing on someone (that isn't the main character) so she was like "Wait, we're the same?" and this is why the main character decided to stalk him at the end (probably in the hopes of finding out who exactly her crush's crush is).

As for the panting in the end, our translators said it's more of a sound you do when in pain or you're exasperated about something. We honestly don't understand why the guy reacted that way either. My theory about it is that the guy finds their interaction real creepy but you can formulate your own theories about it since it's really an open ended thing.

@ruiruru thanks, i had sort of understood that when i read it a second time (what you said in the first paragraph), but the panting at the end dumbfounded me. It was weeeeeird and seemed like it begets a continuation. Pretty crappy open ending, if anything, imo.

I think that the guy was panting at the end because he Has crush on mc, but he is weak to her ^{(?)(trough he wasn't blushing, but i rather think that their feeling is mutual xDD)
((Ps. I know that the boy is prob into someone else, since he mentioned something about a girl who taught him pen spinning (i dunno the right name for it) ))}
