From previous chapter, referring to female demon as "him" is an error. It is more along the lines of Middle English "it". "He who lives by the sword dies by the sword." I'm well-aware that this is not the correct/direct quote but "he" is understood as any person male or female. Same concept when Fenris called Hiya a "he".

edit: nvm found it myself. it was only a one-liner. The writing for the LN of this series is really poor lmao. Literally the level of a middle schooler. I've read guilty pleasure isekai LNs before, and a good number are shitty, but none of them are this bad in terms of writing.

People generally will assume and use the gender they see if they don't know otherwise. Japanese it was fine because it's much more practical and natural to use gender neutral. English can't. forcing her to refer to Hiya using anything other than 'she' is extremely forced and unnatural
