This should be how it's done. Two overly large men, greased with sweat step into the circle. They stance up, kneel down. Then bam! Fingers lock. How serious would those fat men get? Eyes transfixed on their hands and their enemy. Looking for the smallest mistake, the slightest weakness.
Now imagine the exasperated Japanese announcer. Screaming his head off as the camera zooms in on their interlocked hands, thumbs clashing like swords. How excited would he be?

I'm wondering if that's a translator's mistake. Since that could be the bubble coming from MC and also it's something MC would think... Maybe the his/her got messed up somehow?
If not that would be one weird move the mangaka tried to make, totally out of character.

@essen46 I dunno, it looks to me like it's coming from her head, if it were from him I'd think it makes more sense to have the bubbles coming from the bottom so there's no question. It also makes sense that she'd change what the challenge was after discovering how thin his arms are, I mean she did essentially do it once already after he brought up he was wearing a suit.
