I don't think the dress up was as good as the novel, but the note-taking scene was cute.

Looks like mr. scarlet is trying to be a bit more incognito here, or perhaps his eye treatment isn't finished yet. Either way, it removes a good chunk of the only bits of creepiness he's got with the smelling thing. A shame, he's already lacking in flaws.

Each version cater to a different public (that sometime share some common stories, like this one)
(Joseï and Seïnen to be exact)
My thought is that instead of being a outlier unifying both community, they choose to publish two different version, each having a deeper focus on different part of the story.
By example, this one focused a lot on the make up, the other focused a lot on the notarial stuff.
