Everything was good until they decided to retro things and add more elements into the mix. Isn't time travelling enough of a twist for a zombie+battle royale story?

I have a gut feeling that this will only go downfall from now on. I've got several questions that I wish will be answered in logical and reasonable manner in the future chapters. Why is the boy the 'key' to change the future? Is it because it revolves around the short shy girl? But the girl was merely controlled... Intelligent wise, the cop deserves the highlight for practically cracking the whole mystery.
