GLORIOUS NIPPON CUISINE.

Joking aside, the premise of introducing the culture through cuisine seems interesting, even if so far it suffers from the same mistake other manga/anime have of presenting a foreigner who is indistinguishable from the Japanese characters and has similar Japanese characteristics/praises everything Japanese.

@Milanin Yes. Their "Curry Rice" is always standard curry though. Seriously a shame when they can go Bryani or something for once in their lives. Honestly, nobody needs to read about Japan's love for Curry for the 50th time. Its already the trademark favorite food for at least 20 characters "born/made in Japan", used as a 'legendary food' (rare/hard to make monstrosities with various variations) in every Harvest Moon game and is even used as plot points for various arcs in various series.


Seriously guys, give Roti Canai or Tandoori or something for a chance in the spotlight. Doesn't even have to be Indian. Even Macaroni and Cheese is fine ;_;
Honestly, I just want to see a standard food story that isn't full GLORIOUS NIPPON CUISINE! or GLORIOUS CHINESE CUISINE!. Even the isekai ones.


You have flour! You have Meat! Stop making random Chinese pastries and pure meat dishes! Make a burger for once! And YOU! STOP PUTTING CHOCOLATE IN YOUR CURRY! NOT ALL CURRY NEED THEM!

Is Suzume from Japan originally before she went to Britain? I suppose it's possible that she was born in England to at least one Japanese parent (since "Suzume" is a Japanese name) but, if she was born in Japan, she must have left Japan at a very young age if she's unfamiliar with taiyaki. I've never even been to Japan but I've known about taiyaki since at least the mid-1990s due to it appearing in anime like Urusei Yatsura and Sailor Moon.

Not surprised honestly. I actually wouldn't be surprised if it's some backward ass propaganda (not really, but it's way too frequent). The amount of Isekai, transmigration, or back in time stories I've read where the mc ONLY makes Asian, specifically Japanese foodstuff and the entire world loves it is extremely cringy. Let alone when a foreigner is in modern Japan.

Hell, I read a WN where royalty in the deserts that have never even eaten fish before try raw sushi and immediately love it. Not saying one or two wouldn' like it, but literally everyone from the children to the old-timers praised it as holy food, lmao.

@Akemua Don't forget the mayonnaise. If that irks you, you might wanna check out Ascendance of a Bookworm which is pretty unique as far as isekais go. The protagonist loved Italian cuisine, and pizza was one of the first dishes she properly introduced into the world she reincarnated into.

@SasazukaIchimashi It would be interesting if that was the case, and the plot revolves around Suzume gradually reconnecting with her native homeland through its cuisine after being apart from it for the majority of her life.

There is a good chance Suzume's parents are from two different nationalities/ethnicities.
I'm guessing the father is Japanese, while the mother is British, and that Suzume was born in England.
