Majo Taisen - The War of Greedy Witches - Vol. 1 Ch. 1 - The Thousand Night Bloodbath

At first I was like "wtf did Marie Antoinette do to be considered a strong woman?" and then they talked about her nobility, and yeah, I guess I can see that.

But Yaoya Oshichi?? She literally just tried to burn down a temple and died for it.

Looking at the cover, I guess the main characters will be (left to right+lots of guesses): Marie Antoinette, La Voisin(???), Jeanne, Idk, Tomoe Gozen, Lyudmila Pavlichenko, and Pimiko (could be one of the Chinese witches but I don't think China ever used that type of print on clothing...)

kinda average, but interesting enough to keep going for a while

i dig girls killing each other

@Sarsak
marie antoinette: there are myths about her being the real reason france suffered, and the infamous 'let them eat cake' quote (she didn't actually say it).

yaoya: this is a manga - written by japanese for japanese, so more japanese should be expected: tomoe gozen definitely deserves to be a witch more than her.

the list is definitely legit though: mona , amelia , florence, marie curie , cleopatra, jeanne, mata , bonnie, Elizabeth Báthory, mary read, yang gui fei, etc.

I'm pretty interested in this. A guy in the Record of Ragnarok discord recommended this series, and I can see why. I'm curious what Mona Lisa is gonna pull out for a weapon. I'm not gonna come into this expecting top-tier character writing or anything, but as long as the fights are cool I'll keep reading.

lol some of the women doesn't even count as witch
probably the mangaka just randomly googled the most famous women in the history and used them for their story.

but the story is still promising.

@Sarsak
Pimiko (also spelled Himiko) was the shamaness-queen that ruled the pre-Yamato Japanese kingdom of Yamatai, whom we know about mainly through her diplomatic relations with the Chinese kingdom of Cao Wei which are recorded in the Records of the Three Kingdoms, which also says that she practiced sorcery. At the very least she's definitely more of a witch than half the women in here.

As expected of the author of Kakegurui, 'witch' is used very loosely here lol. Also for better or worse it's a fighting game not a BR.

The characters might as well be OCs, but that doesn't really matter and the art is really good.

Hmmmm I like it especially since I play fate grand order as well lol but dang tomoe is great my favorite archer hope she doesn't die too early.

@SystematicChaos I'm not saying that Pimiko doesn't deserve to be part of the witches, rather she definitely does deserve to be a part of it because of all the things you mentioned. The last sentence was just me throwing guesses at who the witches on the cover are.

@cgr I don't mind that there's a bunch of Japanese women there, it's just that Yaoya compared to other historical figures is kinda befuddling. Could've gotten Okuni, for example, she made Kabuki.

@Sarsak

that's what I meant though, based their myths , and worldwide fame/infamy, yaoya doesn't deserve to be in the top 32 women in history worldwide, only only 0~2 Japanese should be among the top 32 women , but because this is a manga for japanese there are7 japanese. so maybe author thinks the myths of yaoya would make her seem like the 7th most witch-like japanese woman to japanese : her death by burning and her refusal for a lighter sentence might appeal to japanese readers more as witch-like defiance.

Don't vote for jeanne, she is gonna convert in a bath in round 2 by Eli-chan
