Hi All,

I'm currently looking for folk to help with a research project I'm doing around the reading and spending habits of the online manga fandom.

I'm looking for people over the age of 16 since I can't verify parental consent, so if you meet this criteria please fill in the Manga reader survey below.

https://forms.gle/tmFTEPSDmmuMEz637

I'm not taking any person information, and once the summarised datasets are created I will be deleting the answer level data.

I'll be keeping this open for two weeks so if you could give it a go and share with anyone who might be interested it would be greatly appreciated.

Ping me on the forums or discord (WeebTrash#8856) if you have any questions.

Thanks in advance!

What is the purpose of this survey?

1. For English License holders to have numerical evidence of the market size?

2. So all the degenerates can get arrested by the FBI and the rest of the pirates to be sent to Davy Jones?

3. So that you can finally say that Slice of Life is the best genre?

4. For univeristy/school sociocultural research projects? Which professor would even wanna read that?

5. For self-interest? It sounds pretty official considering the exclusion criteria and explaining that you will delete the answer level data

6. All of the above.

I'm having a look at the online manga reading community as a personal project.

As for the data deletion, I just wanted to give folk comfort than I'm not just data hoarding their responses, even if its anonymous.

@hazzack

Did that have what I had in my survey?

It'd defo be useful if they were able to share any details, since I have a feel I'll be lacking volume.

@ColorfulSoy

Fair point, although I feel people like us with 500+ series read would be in the minority.

Plus was thinking if I keep adding demo's its gonna end up getting a bit much for some folk.

We shall see, if I've not set the bandings right for the series followed, I might have to do a follow up to get a read on that kinda split.

@sdair
Readership Term: Please specify how long you have been reading manga for *
This means how many years you've been reading manga for, right? It could also be interpreted as "what age range were you when you started reading manga?"

@sdair
I mean, if its getting a bother for some peopel, why would they want to help you for a data survey ??

The more specific the more accurate data you will get.

@bigtiddyoneesan yeah, now i'm reading through some of these, there are some questions I could have worded better.

The aim of that questions is to find out how many years you have been reading for, i.e. the "term" of your readership

@ColorfulSoy Fair point, I was focusing on inclusivity on a marginal segment, which in reality probably wouldn't assist anyways.

Thought maybe there would be some folk willing to help with that caveat, also best practice and all that jazz.

well, as a guy who helped a survey.

@sdair
you should ask some people opinion about the survey before making the survey to the public, so you can have a better execution, but this is good enough.

@ColorfulSoy

Yeah, I'm realising how much I've missed in this one quite starkly now T_T

Thankfully folk are working around most of the issues, so hopefully the results will still stand.

Cheers for helping though!

@vinsegas ah, I didn't think about that. Go with whatever you're considered at home, so Spain, Should have probably added a White - "Branch" set of options, or continent as @ColorfulSoy suggested.

Yeah, for that one I used a "standardised" question from a website, didn't think to much about issues it could cause... T_T

@sdair
Rather than an ethnic, a country or a continent question will make you easier to arrange the data, since ethnic is unrelevant to the data. Some people would think this is an offensive shit, (you know, internet is big) its like asking some people, "why do you read a "manga", you're MURICAN, you should read a "comic."" or the opposite.
(Murican in quotation).

For what you need to know an ethnic of some groups in the first place ?
