Yeah, it's explained a bit better there, how he was simply yoinked from what was going to alter his mind a bit.
The news and letters were clearer as well: His obituary and funeral and all. The one that interfered with the 'boss summon' was content enough with having him just not be a new boss as that was in and of itself the main success, although

So I guess it’s gonna go about a few chapters of MC being aimless and depressed, someone (Ashley/ female guild mates) saying something that resonates with him, snapping him out of it. Then begins his journey to find a way to confront the god that brought him there and probably kill it, but with guns.
