Another thought that occurred to me is that it could be an alternate take on the Minor Arcana, as there's a queen and knight card, with Italian decks adding in the maid (as in maiden or female virgin, which a princess would be expected to remain). It'd make sense, as the Demon King Candidates take from the Major Aracna and their subordinates are called "cards". If that's the case, other options for face cards are just the page, mounted lady, and the knave and jack, if the author wants them to be their own thing (some decks use them in place of the page and knight, respectively), though it's entirely possible that plain old number cards could show up with larger groups.

If it weren't for his chuuni-like way of talking about himself, Aspite would make the ideal rival character. And I don't mean the typical battle shounen rivalry in which both rivals continue to grow with each other, but the kind of rivalry in which you need to eliminate your rivals to achieve your goals. Imo this fits as both MC and Aspite have the goal of becoming the demon king and only one can achieve that.
