I'll give out some points here.

1: He's the Hero's child hood friend. The Hero's childhood friend turning into antagonists is a common trope in manga.
2: He's the Demon kings 'adviser' which puts him in the perfect position to influence the Demon kings decisions.
3: He is the current master of a super genius robot girl he manipulated into getting a new personality.

..4: It'd honestly be an interesting twist.
