that's actually part of the reason they're fighting. old man is scary as fuck and extremely threatening. zagan doesn't take shit from anyone and has adopted foll as his daughter, and even by this point, we've learned that he's greedy. After growing up on the streets, once he 'possesses' something he won't let anyone take it away.

It's not you guys, they really are skipping steps, even in the novel. No one is talking about anything, so they're going straight to fighting.

Get used to battles making no sense. Most of what's said about how things work is thrown out of the window next time they get used (borrowing knowledge from the novel). This is not to say the work is bad or the narrative is bad, it's just the combat sequences are kinda ridiculous in general. The plot itself is fantastic and it get's better over time.

We only know he went off with the dragon and that he was found drinking the dead dragon's blood. Fairly easy to guess that it might not have been him who killed the dragon, yes?
