Maou-sama ni Shoukan sareta kedo Kotoba ga Tsuujinai - Vol. 1 Ch. 4 - I Found Her (2)

@APMi yeah dude he can definitely learn the language of a world with no reference points, no prior contact, no warning, and an incomplete education. he's been there 3 days already, why isn't a fluent by now?

thinking about it, with no dictionaries, google translate, possible cultural and worldly differences in their language(whose to say Mary's language is the only one in this world, and what concepts do they have that are completely foreign to humans) and so much more, sure he could learn basic nouns and verbs through repetition and such(R.I.P no anki) but the fastest way for him to understand would be for mary to fetch linguistics professors to study him and his language, theyd be a lot more equipped for this situation and could probably get him to understand even their grammar to form sentences....plus im sure linguistics professors would die for a opportunity to study a completely new language

Collar isn't for any play, it's a clear sign that he belongs to Mary so other people wont try to take him.

He's really in the best position to learn the language. Obviously isn't going to happen in a few days but give it a few months and he'll reach a decent foundation to at least convey himself.

That's if his vocal chords are even similar enough to theirs to properly mimic the words in general and not just a few cherry picked hes come across, after all.

Easy to say "learn the language" when there are no points of reference. (Not to mention that all she ever says to him is "Ren" ref. C1 P24 )

On top of that, adults absorb knowledge slower than children.

@dojinshi Nope. It would be faster for him to learn the language by starting with "universal sign language" (e.g saying eat food during meal times alongside pointing and actions)/learning "alphabets" one by one like a baby. Studying him won't work because the linguistics professor would be just as stuck as him in figuring out another language. (Might as well start with teaching him)

@Nep And he hasn’t even had time to sit down and learn the language because he’s had more important things to worry about.

Probably something along the lines of him being willfully summoned from who knows where to be a pet, attempt to identify his origin, attempt to get rid of him (probably by sending him home) and finally acknowledging him as pet.
@liquidsword Like wandering around the castle. Or getting bored. Or ad-libing someone's dialogue. Or getting bored again. Or studying cloth-made servant. Not a minute to himself.

@kwendy Exactly, I’m glad you understood. In all seriousness, I don’t think he’s had time to sit down for an extended period of time without something happening. I don’t think you can learn a language in a minute. I’m sure you already know that.

@Nep and who better qualified to teach him the language in the best manner, especially with him not being a kid, than top of the line linguistics professors or amazing teachers? Mary's treating him like a dog at the moment and clearly is not suitable in teaching him. you say "learn the alphabet" but what if its not a simple 26 character language? what if its complex like chinese or japanese where the way kids learn the language is NOT sustainable for an adults way of learning? yes he can learn the basics, but its not gonna extend past that, especially if its mary teaching him

This is spot on for a little sister bringing home a puppy or kitten she found. "Ill feed him and clean up his messes myself. I promise!"

I don’t get why they still want to treat him like a pet. By now it should be kinda obvious that he is a highly intelligent being, even if he can’t speak their language.
