Even if it turns out that Mary did return Ren home for a while, I don't see why the manga would be "over". It just establishes that transportation between worlds isn't one way. Not all isekais are one way-only. Fushigi Yuugi had characters go back and forth.

Mary still knows how to bring him back to her world again when he's healthy.
