@zenyo A demi-human will be a demi-human until the day they die, but an Uighur could choose to denounce everything they are and try to become an average Chinese. It would be a cultural, linguistic, historical, identity, and religious suicide, so not a very attractive prospect, but it's still a way to stay alive. The Chinese government would be very pleased if an Uighur did it and would use them as an example of a model citizen. However, if it's about your very race or species, there's very little you could ever do, apart from fleeing or dying.

Genocide tends to leave the race being genocided unable to fight back, as they tend to have no resources. It wasn't the people being genocided who tried killing Hitler or Stalin.

@ickdrasil Despite being extremely rich, China is still a totalitarian country. It comes with many inconveniences and dangers for the citizens. Even those in power must always be wary of betrayals or simply falling from grace. That's the nature of tyrannies.

@no168_92 The USSR collapsed. Russia would rather reconquer places, not let go of them, and indeed it has done it. Putin has said he misses the Soviet times and that Russia's real borders are those of the heyday of the empire. China is also trying to capture area from its neighbours, most definitely not split land off.

There's no denouncing that would make the Han accept the Uyghurs. It's not just a cultural affiliation, it's an ancestral one. Until they magically change their ethnic history they will be discriminated against, so until they can get their hands on a time machine, they're screwed.

To say that the Uyghurs would be accepted if they "tried to become an average Chinese" is so fucking offensive and stinks of buying into government propaganda. Educate yourself.
