The author has many ways to make it work, even choosing to never tell us and just proceed with them as is. Maybe the parents met during a vacation and the mom got pregnant without knowing the guys name.

@jokerxhisoka True but on the other hand Maria could be showing a photo of his dad as a teen . Handa did say it was suprising to see someone who looks just like him. But he only mentions having his hair colour and eyes from his dad. So it probably didn't click that it was his pops photo right away due to the age difference

I think it's just a coincidence that he looks like her brother. Seen people saying he might be her nephew or something. She will fall for him for who he is eventually. Though I feel like once he falls for her, he will begin to get annoyed as she compares him to her brother.

@UltimateAdrian20 well, if the author wants to go for full fledged drama trainwreck, then it could be possible that Sensei's Onichan, got an older lady (handas mom) preggo, and she not wanting to screw up the kids future just let him go.
@_Happy_ If the mom just got pregnant and not married, then it would fit.

@ jokerxhisoka he only mentioned he inherited his eyes and hair color from his dad, he hasnt mentioned anything about knowing or not knowing him, and if his mom is at the hospital and he has had to keep a job to pay the bills, then its obvious that Dad hasnt been around for a long while now.
