There was an article in a military history magazine I read some time back (got it at another place).
Think half or more of the US presidents have served in the military / been active as presidents during wars.
Most were Army, Then Navy then Air Force (unless Bush Sr was part of Navy Air Force, and there wasn't any other pilots) I believe in that order.
USMC was quite frankly too small in size before WW2 to have had any such chance.
holy crap that was an old comment, I had to read the first page of this chapter to even remember why I wrote it.....
Yeah, I know some presidents have been in the military, but these guys were trying to recruit her into the Marines. If they said, "go join the Army or Navy or Air Force, because ____ Presidents did" or something like that, then it would have made sense. But they were using false facts to get her to join the Marines and it felt like some bad marketing scheme to trick both the MC and reader. (I got nothing against Marines btw.)
........at least, I think that's what I was thinking 2 years ago when I made that comment. I haven't read this manga since chapter 5 or something...wasn't really feeling it.
@Someguy
True. But considering Marines were at best 20k strong until WW1 I believe, that's kind of a foregone conclusion.
That being said, maybe it has something to do with that the USMC is the first choice for any actual conflicts nowadays, as they don't need declarations of war to be sent out. Or maybe it's just easier to enlist in the USMC if you're a foreigner and want the green card.
