It does seem rather unfair that martial arts issues eat away at his normal life and he doesn't even get to fly on a sword or do any of the other cool stuff.

reading the comments i thought maybe the mc got traumatized, because he saw all those movies but couldn't do it.
he got blue balls hahahahahha was teased so much but never lived it himself.
so now he is playing 'it is all a lie'.
if he really had taken the path any far, the whole story premise would fall apart.
so either he had no talent, or the old man didn't taught him for some reason.
his is so incredulous, but we can see the scene is doing much better.
