@Hoezell The protagonist seemed to change personalities each chapter, being a fairly naive and nervous teenager one chapter to an uncaring, "kill all the non-elves" bastard in another. It got canceled after a mere 12 chapters, so depending on how long the author knew it was coming, that could have had something to do with it.
