If anyone ever feels the need to edit this, the correct pronouns (from what I understand) is actually they/them. Despite Zenkichi's suspicion they're female, the author kept them androgynous on purpose. I know some humans are ok with being called "it" but I always felt that was derogatory since you're a person; not a thing.

I completely agree. Reading and seeing them being called "it" is dehumanizing and it made me uncomfortable just reading it.
