Meme Girls - Ch. 17 - Scottish Pokemon Trainer #3: Scottish Trainer vs. Marnie

@EOTFOFYL
@Avenger88id

Basically, new mechanic that turns pokémon gigantic for a few turns. Some Pokémons apparently change forms from it…

This is also why some people have joked that Dynamaxing a Wailord would defeat the Gym automatically (Since Wailord is already the biggest Pokémon that exists) because it would crush the building.

Dynamaxed Splashing Magicarp is actually a horrifying thought now that I think about it...

@EOTFOFYL Magikarp is a famously weak pokemon from the first generation (it only has one move, splash, which does 0 damage), that later evolves into a cool sea dragon thing. The upcoming Pokemon games have a system called "Dynamax" where your pokemon becomes enormous and gets special moves and whatnot.

ya know, it is said in Pokemon lore that once a Magikarp gets old enough it may grow strong enough to jump over a mountain using the move splash...leaving aside how useless that may be in actual battle scenarios, I'm pretty sure it'd hurt like hell to have one land on you after jumping like that
@Xixel
Magikarp also learns Tackle at lvl 15 and thrash at lvl 30, so it does in fact have more moves than just splash
.
which by all accounts I can find is actually a mis-translation and the original move "はねる" or "Haneru" has no direct English equivalent but can mean things along the lines of "Splash" "Hop" "Twist" or "Flip", and based on the current list of Pokemon that can know "Splash" it turns out to be the LEAST accurate option out of the lot...except back in gen 1 Magikarp was the only Pokemon capable of knowing it and it was a fish, thus the wrong connotation got used and then it never got corrected

At least, Pokemon Sword and Shield generated a good meme.
It's basicaly the only good thing this release did.
