He's pretty much messing with the spider for the heck of it although he could've just wrapped it all up quickly. Doesn't need to do it.
He doesn't even need that magical gem he asked for. Doesn't give a damn what its removal could do to the original owner, and then goes "Huh. So she reverted back and now her skin is peeling off, and she's gonna die. Cool.". And also takes advantage of the spider being dumb by robbing her blind.
He gives off the exact same vibe as some sort of martial from a xianxia, now you mention it. Protagonist from Master of GU, for example would be the same as him.
Classic portrayal of hero would be mercy/sympathy towards enemy. While I wouldn't want to have a full shounen saint protagonist, the MC has just has ZERO pity towards the enemy that spent most of the time in last two chapters being utterly pathetic. And that simply makes the MC unpleasant as he lacks human qualities. Like the other guy said - "wisdom at expense of humanity".
He's unlikeable because he does not display any positive qualities in those chapters. Basically, his behavior indicates that everybody is a pawn for him. Possibly a disposable one. Spider and his teammates too.

You have to understand something, the mc at this point in time is just quite literally broken and this is him being kind, he’s very very messed up in the head and would do A LOT of things in just the name of amusement, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing because if he were a ‘good guy’ as you want him to be Vivian would be dead, have you ever heard something along the lines of its best to be up against a evil man Han a good one? Because the good one would kill you right away but with the evil one you’ll have a chance to live because he won’t kill you right away

I don't find pointless abuse interesting. Especially when it is stretched over several chapters. Otherwise I'd be reading different material, like one of those trashy revenge mangas. And what we have here is a pointless abuse, done by the "protagonist".

Dude how do you want him to treat her? She was his enemy, under other circumstances she should be dead but here he is defending her albeit also using her, I don’t think she can or should ask for anything more and once he dosent go TOO far I don’t see a problem, would you rather he be a stupid mc that lacks any sort of tension against potential threats? This guy is careful, he didn’t even allow himself to faint in front of her which is a nice little tid bit to show how cautious he is

How is it even abuse? Did you miss the part where she’s a powerful alchemist and mage? Why should he have someone as powerful as her running free? Did you forget she’s actually fucking crazy or did you also forget and believe the story about how she was controlled? She’s a mad scientist and the mc would have to be a retard not to take precautions, at the very least on the outside it seems like he’ll treat her like a companion even though she’s his slave at least

@Supremegod17 I don’t think the story is fake, at least not completely. What he said at the end confirmed that she did have decreased intelligence in monster form and still isn’t at normal intelligence. So it’s bilievable that she really wasn’t of the right mind in monster form and maybe she really was forcibly transformed. Maybe she’s not crazy or at least as crazy now that she’s turned back.
