It's related to snails. Basically saying she's a snail.

a lot of what she feels is what we all feel, except that for her they're the dominating emotions all the time

It's not really correct that it's a refrence to One Piece, One Piece used it because it's commonly used in reference to snails.

Japanese language typically does not use spaces, and spelling でんでん(denden) in Hiragana opens the context up to interpretation:

伝 (でん) (den) (life, method, way), could be repeated twice as でん でん (den den).

でんでん could then be a short form of でんでん虫 (でんでんむし) (snail)

かたつむり (蝸牛) (snail)
