If we want to see him in a positive light it might be part "not be impolite when she's gone through the psyching up to serve herself up" and part "let's give her a reason she can understand and accept for why he spent a gazillion dollars on her freedom, when he should have been able to spend a lot less through some employment agency that connects pro people with ships". (That he had other reasons like wanting not only the right one, but also right now (b/c boredom) is something he and maybe we can understand, but she doesn't seem to be able to catch it.)

Plus, this way did give him a nice harem, which is probably also on his to-do list, right after the house and the fizzy drinks. XD
